USF and FMHI Curricular Processes

Faculty have the primary responsibility for the origination and approval of all courses, curricula, and degrees offered. The FMHI Curriculum Committee, composed of representatives from the faculty and all program directors, is charged with reviewing and recommending approval of curricular proposals to the Dean. At the University level, the USF Undergraduate Council and the USF Graduate Council, composed of faculty representatives from the various colleges, are charged with the responsibility to review and recommend approval of new courses, concentrations, certificates, and degree programs. While different procedures exist for each type of proposal, the general steps in the process include sequential submission and approval of proposals by the Department Chair, the FMHI Curriculum Committee, the Dean, the Undergraduate or Graduate Council as appropriate, the Provost. The Board of Trustees (BOT) has the responsibility for the authorization of new degree programs up to and including the master’s level. New specialist, doctoral, and first-professional degree programs must be approved by the Florida Board of Governors as well as the BOT. Specific procedures are detailed on the following websites:
