Louis de la Parte, Jr
Tampa native, Louis de la Parte was nationally recognized for his tireless efforts on behalf of the people of Florida. As President of the Florida Senate, Mr. de la Parte served with humility, charm, and an incredible sense of values. He was a formidable legislator, and perhaps the most respected senator in the Legislature.
In his efforts to improve service within the state, Mr. de la Parte advocated for the establishment of academic centers to develop innovative programs for the state's social services, criminal justice, and education systems. His personal and professional commitment resulted in the establishment of the Florida Mental Health Institute at the University of South Florida. He remained a steadfast friend of the Institute, guiding it through turbulent times.
Mr. de la Parte knew firsthand the importance of community. Every bill and amendment he sponsored had, as its underlying theme, the improvement of the day-to-day lives of everyday people. In 1996, in recognition of his work to better the lives of Florida's citizens, the Senate renamed the Institute in his honor.
