" Expert to Discuss Preventing Crimes Against Children"
One of the nation's leading experts on child victimization will explore "Why Children Suffer the Most Crime Victimization and What We Can Do About It", on Monday, March 13, 2000 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the University of South Florida's College of Public Health Auditorium.
Dr. David Finkelhor is the Co-Director of the Family Research Laboratory and Director of the Crimes Against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire. He has been studying the problems of child victimization, child maltreatment, and family violence for decades. He is well know for his work on the problem of child sexual abuse reflected in such publications as Sourcebook on Child Sexual Abuse and Nursery Crimes. He has also written about child homicide, missing and abducted children, children exposed to domestic and peer violence, and other forms of family violence.
Dr. Finkelhor is the editor and author of ten books and more than 75 journal articles and book chapters. In 1994, he was given the Distinguished Child Abuse Professional Award by the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children.
The lecture is sponsored by the University of South Florida's Collaborative on Children, Families and Communities and the Center for Child Welfare Studies in the Department of Child and Family Studies, Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute at USF. The USF Collaborative is a multi-departmental effort to enhance the lives of children and their families by developing a comprehensive understanding of their needs and promoting partnerships with community organizations. The Center for Child Welfare Studies was initiated to promote access to information in the areas of child welfare, family protection, and reunification. The lecture is free and open to the public.
