Graduate Studies in Behavioral Health
MSW/MPH Dual Degree Program
The University of South Florida has developed a Dual-Degree Masters Program with a clinical social work concentration combined with a public health concentration in either Behavioral Health or Maternal and Child Health.
For social work students seeking the dual-degree, expanded study in public health encourages a well-balanced macro-micro orientation to clinical practice. Such expansion provides social work students with specific skills that result in comprehensive and effective client interventions in health care settings. The fundamental methodological tools of public health, such as biostatistics, epidemiology, and health management and evaluation, further assist the social worker in targeting the needs of individuals and communities. The MSW/MPH Dual-Degree Program is a two to three year full-time course of study.
Students may apply either simultaneously for this dual degree program (indicating this intention on their application forms) or may add social work after admission to the College of Public Health, or add public health after admission to the School of Social Work. Applications for this dual degree program may be obtained from the Admissions Office at the School of Social Work or at the Office of Academic Affairs in the College of Public Health. The application should be signed by the Chair of the School of Social Work and then returned to Beverly Sanchez (813-974-6609) at the College of Public Health.
The Behavioral Health Concentration is concerned with the study of mental disorders and substance disorders in community populations. The focus areas include children’s mental health services, community-based services delivery, evaluation and accountability in behavioral health, and epidemiologic issues in mental disorders, including co-occurring disorders.
